Location:
Louis Trichardt                 Limpopo               South Africa

Welcome to Makhado Municipal Caravan Park, the Caravan Park in Makhado at the foot of the Soutpansberg. The Land of Legend - where the myths and tradition (e.g. the Venda's Dombo dance) of the people of the North are interwoven into the mist-shrouded peaks and crags of the beautiful Soutpansberg Mountains.

We offer you luscious green and level camping sites snuggled in the shade of towering Paper Bark trees, and adjacent to the indigenous Tree Park. Arranged in a comely and peaceful atmosphere, and abounding with an extremely rich bird life, camp next to our tranquil stream, including two dams, that meanders through the resort.

With a 24-hour security guard, and well situated next to the center of town, you have your bread buttered on both sides with the supermarkets, restaurants, take-a-ways and pubs that are across the road and within walking distance and with our idyllic peaceful setting, natural environment, and cultural history, we provide an outstanding locality for eco-tourism in the district, and Makhado Municipal Caravan Park makes for an ideal base to explore the surrounding area.

Visit the various museums and heritage sites, hiking trails, horse riding trails, mountain bike trails, game farms, nature reserves and bird sanctuaries that abound close by, or cool off in clear mountain streams and pools that are plentiful in the region. The Natural Salt Pan (Soutpansberg: mountain of the salt pan), forms a large natural saltpan, and is well worth a visit, is the only one of its kind within hundreds of kilometres of the area.

The legendary Lake Fundudzi, the Thate Vondo Dam, the Phiphidi waterfall and the Big Tree, are a must for outstanding sightseeing. Mountain scenery can be enjoyed along the Witvlag and Bluegumspoort roads. The well-known Wylliespoort, Verwoerd tunnels and Masekwaspoort are also worth a visit.

The Makhado Municipal Caravan Park has been voted 4th best caravan park in SA by the readers of the Caravan and Outdoor Life Magazine in 2004.
